Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease: More Than Heartburn

your throat is tight. GERD can also cause a dry cough and bad breath. I have been dealing with BMS since I was in my mid 30s. I am now 62.

Have you heard of throat tightening as a symptom of acid reflux? It is easy to mistake as the early stages of a cold, but stomach acid traveling back up can irritate the esophageal lining, causing hoarseness in voice.

Burning mouth syndrome affects women seven times as often as men. It generally occurs in middle-aged or older adults.

Between the age of 19 and now at age 27 I have tried almost every single medication that is out there for GERD. They all worked great for a while and then after a year or so they would stop being effective. I have tried EVERYTHING; controlling my diet, lifestyle changes, everything, and nothing seems to effectively help my acid reflux.

I am a 64 year old woman. I have had BMS for around 4 years. It seemed to literally come out of nowhere.

I know this is supposed to be courageous stories and I am doing my best to be brave. Until I get a diagnosis I have resolved to be calm, patient, keep a positive mental attitude and distract myself with pleasant activities whenever I can. I am in the fortunate position of not having to care for anyone else and I do appreciate the fact that my time is my own. I can concentrate on things like diet modification and rest.

I am calling my doctors nurse tomorrow and making an appointment. I am going to ask his nurse to have the doc check out Alpha Lipoic Acid before my appointment. I really want to try that and hope so much it helps, even a little.

It worked great at first unfortunately it is a drug you develop tolerance to over time and it is sedating. There is a lot of information on the internet from reliable sources like the Mayo Clinic, WebMD and the NIH.

If you think your symptoms may be related please check out my RSI(reflux symptom test) which will show you if you symptoms match someone with acid reflux/LPR which could be the direct reason for your burning mouth symptoms. If you have burning like symptoms in your throat as well as your mouth, there is a decent chance that your problem could be directly related to reflux and treating your problem as if it where LPR could be the best path you could take. You can read more about LPR here in my complete guide.
