I did ask her if it could possibly be low stomach acid, and straightaway she discounted it. So she put me on Lansoprozale, and I took this for a month, and it really helpd with the stomach problems and the vertigo and dizziness virtually disappeared. However, round about the third week I sarted getting vauge pains in my arms and back, and somedays it was even an effort to put one leg in front of the other, so I stopped the Lansoprozale and the pains went away. Then, of course, the stomach problems and dizziness came bck.
Meanwhile there are two other cycling studies which found that a single dose provided “no improvement” in endurance or high altitude environments (24) (25). These pour cold water on the theory of beet juice benefits for athletes. Another even talks about high nitrite foods like beets being “too much of a good thing” because they may promote bad side effects like angiogenesis and vasodilation if consumed in excess (26). How much beet juice should you drink?
The first time I tried HCL is when a routine blood test said I had low B12 (my level was at 100). Since I was already taking a supplement, I began investigating and found that low stomach acid could cause malabsorption, and many of the GERD and IBS problems I’ve been having. So I started on HCL.
Even though beeturia isn’t usually a cause for concern and dissipates on its own, red or pink urine after eating beets can sometimes indicate problems with your health. Therefore, consult a doctor if you have discolored urine every time you eat beets.
Results indicated that supplementation increased the number of repetitions in the three exercise sets improving session performance by 18.9%. Four of the studies reviewed tested the effects of taking beetroot juice supplements for 5 to 7 days on intermittent, high-intensity efforts [55, 56, 60] or on a resistance training session .
Wake Forest University published a study in 2010 which wasn’t solely based on beet juice, but 500 ml (17 ounces) was included as part of a “high nitrate diet” was given to participants (14). They got the juice with breakfast and at lunch, they had to eat a salad made with spinach and whole beets. On other days they received a low nitrate diet for comparison. 5) It can make you poop red stuff.
Could this still be low stomach acid? Vitamin C seems to help when I take it after eating. Because the time frames can vary person-to-person, as well as how they drink the solution, this test is only a good indicator that you might want to do more testing to determine your stomach acid.
Thanks, Jeff PS, my dog had ghardia, don’t think I got that from him though. Hi Eben, thank you for reaching out! You can safely test for low stomach acid on your own and if your symptoms improve upon supplementing with HCL, chances are you may have low stomach acid. The last two days I noticed that early morning slosh, nautiousa set in and morning bowl movement (usually soft), but yesterday that upset feeling stayed all day, I did have two loose stools (one in am before breakfast and the 2nd after lunch). I ate dinner and for the short time the food was in my stomach, I couldn’t feel the nautious feeling, but then it came back and stayed all night and woke me several times and I felt like I could have thrown up (but was sleeping elevated so maybe that’s why I didn’t).
- I tried the baking Soda test and waited for about 15 minutes to burp and then gave up, does it sound like low stomach acid to you ?.
- At this point I have really lost hope on DR’s and going through the internet to see what could be the problem.
I suffer from a feeling of choking in my throat after I eat tightness in the chest due to excessive gas constant burping pains in my back . Three years ago doctors told my that I had seven ulcers after an endoscopy, the put me on nexium 40mg made me feel worse yet they couldn’t understand why.
Stomach acid is essential to proper digestion. Low amounts prevent the stomach from absorbing necessary nutrients and vitamins. Low stomach acid also leaves the body vulnerable to infection.
Pylori. This little critter is a type of bacteria that often presents itself in the lining of your stomach – although, for many, it lives relatively unnoticed as sufficient stomach acid is pretty effective at keeping it in check. However, if these pesky bacteria are given the opportunity to multiply, they’ll most definitely take it, and if this happens they can cause all sorts of problems such as gastritis and peptic ulcers. But because these products are not regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration, consumers often can’t know for sure how much nitrate they contain.
Often people eat or drink beetroots on purpose in order to test their digestive health. Based on the limited existing data, it appears that women get a bigger boost in nitrate and nitrite levels in their blood following a given dose of beet juice. This could be sex-specific physiology at work, or it could simply reflect the fact that women are generally smaller and thus get a higher relative dose from a bottle of beet juice. Women also seem to start with a higher baseline level of nitrite in their blood-but that could simply reflect dietary differences. A Dutch study, for example, found that highly trained female athletes tended to eat more nitrate-rich foods like leafy greens than highly trained men.
have this problem I notice that my pee/bowel movements turn out bright red! I was just wondering what enzyme supplements or probiotics you use? I’ve used probiotics before but didnt’ notice a big difference.
Also proBiotics (Culturelle Digestive Health ProBiotic), and DGL. I since have added L-glutamine powder in water (I weight lift), small amounts of raw honey, aloe juice, and EFA (Essential Fatty Acids liquid form). IT’s gotten better mostly and yet I still have a bloated stomach, some coughing from reflux tho not nearly as bad as when it started, and feel like eating anything other than what I have been is a dangerous detour. I am married, 53-year old male 6 foot, 180 lb and very fit. It looks sometimes esp after a meal, like a I have a beer belly.
Something like 20% longer worktime at sea level and 45% longer at altitude. Beet It Sport shots are certainly an acquired taste.
