To support your digestion, do your best not to take a nap or go to sleep for at least three hours after you eat. You need three hours to fully digest your meal. If you struggle with reflux or heartburn (especially those pregnant mamas in their third trimester!), it’s super important to eat dinner early and fully digest before you go to bed. It’s absolutely possible to heal SIBO on a vegan diet, but your protein is very limited if not nonexistent. You have to be very conscious of protein. You can have chestnuts and sesame seeds (think tahini). I don’t recommend making acid blockers and PPI’s a habit because they mask the actual issue, which is gut inflammation.
I spent two months trying to heal my gut with my typical methods, but nothing seemed to work. The pain got worse and every time I ate my stomach would blow up like a balloon. Fiber not only promotes intestinal health, but it also reduces constipation and makes you feel full a long while after eating it. And, of course, when you feel full, you are less likely to overeat and therefore less likely to regurgitate what’s in your stomach into your esophagus. Enjoy your oatmeal with low-fat or almond milk, as both are low in fat and highly alkaline.
